Inner Panel Functions

While not visible from the exterior, the inner panel is structurally critical:

• Structural Stiffness: The inner panel, spot-welded to the outer panel, creates a box section that provides the body side with bending and torsional stiffness.

• Door Mounting: Inner panels provide mounting surfaces for door hinges, door latches, and check straps.

• Window Mechanism Mounting: Power window regulators, window seals, and weatherstripping attach to the inner panel.

• Interior Trim Mounting: Interior side trim, grab handles, speakers, and wiring channels integrate with the inner panel.

• Lower Surface Requirements: Surface quality requirements are less stringent than the outer panel since the inner surface is hidden.

Stamping Process for Inner Panels
