What's Included in a Complete Die Set

A full body side die package includes multiple dies for each panel and the final assembly operation:

• Outer Panel Dies: Draw die, trim die, pierce die, flange die, and restrike die for the exterior body side panel.

• Inner Panel Dies: Similar process dies for the inner structural panel.

• Hemming Die: Die that folds the outer panel flange over the inner panel flange to join them together.

• Blank Holders and Lifters: Material handling and automation components for press line integration.

Hemming Process

Hemming is the critical assembly operation that joins inner and outer panels:

• Flange Preparation: The outer panel has a flange around its perimeter that is pre-hemmed at approximately 45 degrees.

• Panel Nesting: The inner panel is precisely positioned against the outer panel.

• Final Hemming: The hemming die folds the flange completely over the inner panel flange, creating a strong, clean joint.

• Hem Quality: Proper hemming produces a smooth edge with no sharp corners, no rollout, and consistent flange width.

Die Integration Considerations

For a multi-die stamping line, we ensure all dies work together:

• Consistent Part Geometry: Inner and outer panels must nest perfectly after all forming operations.

• Process Sequence: Die sequence optimized for line layout and automation flow.

• Common Press Requirements: All dies designed for the same press bed size and tonnage where possible.
